Student
Enterprise Projects

A recent Generation Enterprise report by City & Guilds showed
that 48% of young people aged between 16 and 25 wanted to start
their own business and according to the Small Business Service (SBS),
increasing numbers of parents and teenagers now feel that entrepreneurship
is a suitable career choice.
To further encourage aspiring entrepreneurs in schools, FreshIdeas
Events run Student Enterprise projects with participating London
schools. Previous competitions have had support from
Young Enterprise and Enterprise Insight's Make Your Mark campaign.
The
Programme
The Student Enterprise Competition sets the students the
task of devising a business plan for a business idea that is both
profitable and has a positive impact on their communities and the
environment.
The project starts for students with a Social Enterprise masterclass
in a central London venue. Volunteer business advisors
visit the schools at interim stages in the competition to assist
the student teams working on business plans to make a local difference. Students
pitch their plans to a Dragons' Den style judging panel and the
winners are chosen.
Mr. Rohan Skene, a Business & Enterprise teacher at The St.
Marylebone School says,
"FreshIdeas Event run a well organised and exciting competition
where pupils are able to let their innovative and creative ideas
live. The fast paced programme is ideal in fostering
collaborative group work and presentation skills."
Opportunities
for corporate partners

This is a very exciting project, with great
opportunities for young students. There is an opportunity
for corporate partners to support the upcoming competition.
Benefits for participating organisations include the opportunity
for employees to volunteer their time to educate local young people
about business, for companies to meet their corporate social responsibility
targets and also to position their brand positively amongst a young
and entrepreneurial audience

Participating
Schools

Previous participating schools have included St. Marylebone School
and St. Georges, Maida Vale (left).
As a result of these types of initiatives, you can expect to see
more of these budding young entrepreneurs shaking up business in
the capital.
